August Reflection – Felicia Rakes

From A New Day, Rev. Msgr. Chester Michael, S.T.D.
One of the greatest benefits from the gifts of the Holy Spirit is the gift of discernment.  By our openness to the gifts of the Holy Spirit we are able to discern God’s will in our regard.  This discernment is an exercise especially of the gift of Wisdom by which the Holy Spirit enables us to see things from God’s point of view.  By the gift of Counsel, the Holy Spirit inspires us to know God’s will on any given occasion.  This gift of prophecy is a particular use of the gift of Counsel whereby one is able to discern God’s will for other persons.  Understanding enables us to penetrate the mysteries of God, while Knowledge helps us to penetrate the mysteries of God’s providence at work in the events of history.  Piety and Fear of the Lord enable us to keep a good balance in our life between humility and trust.  Finally, Fortitude gives us the courage to carry out the will of god as revealed to us through the other six gifts.
**Let’s remember Father’s advice to all:  Discernment should be a daily practice for as little as 5-10 minutes!
